Devanahalli Airport

Bangalore International Devanahalli Airport has become the third busiest airport in India over the past ten years. The airport has expanded significantly since it opened, acquiring a second runway in December and serving 32 million people. Bangalore, however, has a fascinating history of airports, with its prior being particularly remarkable.

Bangalore had a smaller airport until Kempegowda International Airport became operational in 2008. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a government-owned aerospace and defense company, is responsible for the name of the previous airport.

The government started building a new major airport for Bangalore in 2005 after realizing that traffic at the single-runway HAL Airport was increasing exponentially. The new airport, however, has been constructed 30 kilometers (19 miles) distant from the city center due to land restrictions, which has decreased connection.

Before being formally renamed Kempegowda International Airport in 2013 to recognize the city's founder, the new hub was known as Bangalore International Airport. The new airport could accommodate up to 25 million passengers and had a single terminal and runway with room to add another.

Bangalore's passenger volume increased and was the driving force behind constructing a new runway in 2019 and an expanded terminal in 2013. AirAsia India and IndiGo use this airport as a hub, and all major Indian airlines fly here. Air Mauritius, Emirates, KLM, and Cathay Pacific are just a few of the 24 foreign airlines that fly out of this hub.

The growth of Bangalore International Airport, which has increased dramatically over the past ten years, shows no indications of slowing down. The hub can now handle more traffic thanks to the freshly constructed second runway at the airport, which will also support the airlines' ongoing operations growth.
